Morning Gang!
Today we have a guest poster, the always fun author, KS Augustin, who has one of the first launch books out from Carina Press!
First, a bit about her. KS Augustin is a Malaysian-born writer of Portuguese-Eurasian descent. Because she has a low boredom threshold, she’s been involved in many things over the years, including writing comedy, running her own IT consultancy and, at various times, owning a bookshop, gym, swimming pool business and martial arts school.
As a writer, she dabbles mostly in science fiction, romance and permutations of the two. She’s been nominated for several awards (which absolutely makes her day) and has been on the Fictionwise Bestseller list (which caused her to walk on air for almost a week). She’s a proud member of Broad Universe, the international organization that supports women writing science fiction, fantasy and horror.
She and her husband move around a lot and consider the world, rather than any one specific country, to be their home. Tagging along on their frequent country-hopping are two long-suffering children, a brace of grumpy fur-shedding cats and a willful mini Bull Terrier.
And now, ladies and gents, KS!
When I sit down and write a post for someone else’s blog, I usually go to their blog, read through previous posts and also comments to the posts. That gives me an idea of what people are interested in reading in that particular corner of the intertubes. And the one thing I get from Dee is that she’s, like, mired in FAMILY. There are twins and kids and in-laws and parents and sisters and their kids and…oh my!
It’s all rather intimidating because, you see, I’m an only child. And I married an only child. And we’ve had to answer questions from the kids on “what are cousins and do we have any?”. (At least we have two children, so they have some company.) My parents aren’t around and my husband J’s father passed away a few years ago, which leaves one grandmother in Poland. So, no brothers, no sisters, one grandparent left out of four. Aren’t tracking too well are we?
There is a positive in all this, though, besides not having to spend time with a sibling I don’t get on with! :) It’s that our sense of family has broadened to encompass a wider circle of people. We are social animals after all, so it’s the natural progression of things. And while you can’t choose your blood relatives, you can certainly choose the members of your community. I find that a rather attractive thought. So I have women I’ve never seen in the flesh who are like sisters to me and, due to modern technology, I’ve reconnected with someone I love dearly that I’ve always thought of as a brother. They’re all there for me and they’ll even help me bury the bodies. What more could I ask? :)
I may not have a large family to call my own, but I’ve managed to find great friends and hope I’ll continue to do so for years to come. Thanks for having me at your blog, Dee. And big slobbery kisses to you and yours!
About The Book:
IN ENEMY HANDS
The Republic had taken everything from Moon―her research partner, her privacy, her illusions. They thought they had her under control. They were wrong.
Srin Flerovs, Moon’s new research partner, is a chemically enhanced maths genius whose memory is erased every two days.
While he and Moon work on a method of bringing dead stars back to life, attraction between them flares, but that poses its own problem. How can their love survive when Srin forgets Moon every two days?
When she discovers the lethal applications her research can be put to, Moon knows she and Srin are nothing more than pawns in a much larger game. Together, they must escape the clutches of the Republic before they become its scapegoats. But there are too many walls around them, too many eyes watching. They want to run, but they’re trapped on a military vessel in the depths of space, and time is running out….
